Oscar Jasso is a film composer and pianist based in Chicago whose music provides the momentum, texture, and emotional depth that complete a visual story. An active member of the Society of Composers & Lyricists (SCL), Oscar creates evocative scores for film and diverse media.
Although music defines his life today, Oscar’s relationship with the piano began with unexpected resistance. As a young boy from Los Angeles, practicing was his least favorite chore, so much so that when his family relocated to Mexico, he was secretly overjoyed they left the piano behind. Everything changed at age ten when an accident nearly cost him his ability to play. This became a profound turning point, revealing just how deeply music truly meant to him. From that moment on, music became the guiding light that shaped the rest of his life.
Driven by a renewed sense of purpose, Oscar plunged into rigorous classical training. At sixteen, he began his undergraduate studies at the Conservatorio de las Rosas in Morelia, Michoacán, before continuing at the Escuela Nacional de Música in Mexico City, studying piano under Luis Mayagoitia and Ramón Mier. In 1994, his talent earned him a prestigious scholarship to study under renowned Italian composer Franco Donatoni. During this period, Oscar also performed across Mexico as a soloist, as well as accompanying and arranging traditional folk music for community choir programs.
Returning to the United States in 1997, Oscar settled in Chicago to continue his music education at Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University, studying piano with Dr. Bruce Berr, composition with Robert Lombardo and Ilya Levinson, and electronic composition with Don Malone. He further refined his dramatic craft in 2001 by studying film scoring at Columbia College Chicago.
A renowned and in-demand piano instructor for over two decades, Oscar balances a thriving teaching practice with his work scoring films and media projects. Blending rich classical traditions, electronic textures, and deep narrative intuition, Oscar collaborates closely with filmmakers to bring their stories to life.
